A new, small, low cost addition to the Motorola Defy family

Motorola seems to have a lot of the components for making fab handsets at its fingertips, but doesn't manage to bring them all together perfectly. The idea of taking the Defy range and making it smaller is a good one, but the execution isn't great. We're also not sure about the phone's dust and water rating. Moto uses the phrases 'dust proof' and 'water resistant' on its website, but doesn't' mention IP67. Maybe the Motorola Defy Mini didn't qualify, then. read more →

      Motorola DEFY MINI Review

Even though it is an okay entry-level Android smartphone, we think you should stay away from the Motorola DEFY MINI, at least for now. It is currently priced at about $250 off contract, which we find totally unjustified considering what you get in exchange. For that amount of cash it would be wiser to pick up the Sony Ericsson Xperia Active or Samsung Galaxy Xcover since both of them are resistant to water and dust, but come with better hardware specs. read more →

      • Resistant to dust and water damage
      • Solid build quality
      • Small and compact
      • Too little storage space
      • Slow processor
      • Too expensive
      • Flimsy plastic covers

      Motorola Defy Mini review

The Motorola Defy Mini almost fulfils its remit as a small, cheap, rugged smartphone that's ideal for camping, festivals or tearaway kids. However, its lack of true waterproofing, small screen and sluggish processor combine to leave us a bit underwhelmed. If your budget really is limited to around £150 then we'd suggest trying to find a larger Motorola Defy, or if you can stretch to just over £200 then the Motorola Defy+ is a much more accomplished handset all-round. read more →

      • Relatively rugged build
      • Compact Design
      • Some nice 'outdoorsy' software tweaks
      • Not waterproof!
      • Not much smaller than Defy+
      • Slow processor

      Motorola Defy Mini

Motorola's promise of a "life-proof" Defy should resonate with the clumsy and active, alike, but it is worth considering some of the other, better phones in this price range. The Defy Mini includes a few neat features, uncommon at this price point, and the "life-proof" promise should resonate with the physically active and incessantly clumsy, alike. Though, we do think Motorola has cut a few too many corners in getting this handset to market on budget. read more →
