So, were talking the makers of Black Label handsets and some pretty good cameraphones. And well, its only their second attempt at Android. No wonder then, theyre not too keen to make a big noise about it. On a second thought though, its really the Android way. The quiet multitaskers will just do their job and offer consumer-friendly smartphone experience. Quite often it would be first-time smartphone users too.
Getting a Donut instead of an Eclair is not such a huge letdown after all. read more →

There is no doubting that the LG Optimus GT540 is attractive in pricing terms, and LG has done a good job of making it look attractive both physically and in terms of its own Android skin.
The resistive touchscreen lacks responsiveness at times though, making you feel like you're swiping through treacle, and the screen itself is a bit too small for media rich activity like Web browsing. We'd have liked to see a higher resolution for video capture too, although video playback is well thought-through. read more →

- Good battery life
- Stylish chassis
- Easy to use 3.5mm headphone jack
- Touchscreen not responsive
- Screen is small
- Web browsing is tricky
- Android 1.6 is behind the times

Transferring your voice over the wireless network with the LG Optimus GT540 is really a pleasant experience. The Optimus' earpiece sounds perfectly fine, with voices being quite audible, but on the other side things are even better, with even higher loudness and easier to comprehend voices. Calling is near perfect on the LG Optimus GT540. The 1500mAh battery powering the LG Optimus manages to provide some serious standby time - about 21 days, while talk time is rated at 5.5 hours. read more →
- Superb performance
- Good call quality
- Plays Xvid
- Has a resistive screen
- Does not play most of the popular video formats
This Android smartphone adds one more option for the budget-conscious, with major drawbacks being the touchscreen and slow performance. If you are on a tight budget, the LG Optimus is a decent choice compared with a feature phone. You get a lot more functions than "dumb" phones in the same price range, thanks to the Android OS. But if you don't want to live with the small resistive screen, consider instead the Samsung Galaxy Spica I5700 , HTC Magic or HTC Hero. read more →
- Inexpensive

- compact form factor.
- Small, resistive touchscreen
- build quality not great
- slow performance
- older Android OS version (though upgrade is forthcoming).
You'd never know by looking at the LG Optimus GT540 smartphone that it was made of plastic, with its stylish brushed-metal effect finish. It also impresses with a slew of features, reasonable camera and solid performance. But LG has missed the chance to take on the likes of the HTC Wildfire by using an older version of the Android operating system and equipping the smartphone with a resistive, rather than capacitive, touchscreen. read more →
- Very stylish
- Good range of features
- Good audio output
- Resistive touchscreen
- Small keyboard keys
