Like it or not, the 3D technology is entering our world more rapidly that the tech evolution is able to handle. Today we have 3D cinemas, home 3DTVs, glasses-free 3D screens at the malls or even street billboards imitating 3D. Wearing glasses is no fun anymore so were glad to see that when LG went on to make a 3D phone, they made it right.
The one thing that was bothering us during the months between the announcement and the release - the 3D viewing quality - turned out quite nice. read more →

- 4.3" 16M-color capacitive LCD stereoscopic touchscreen of WVGA resolution (480 x 800 pixels)
- Android OS v2.2 Froyo with LG 3D UI
- Dual-core 1GHz ARM Cortex-A9 proccessor, PowerVR SGX540 GPU, TI OMAP4430 chipset
- No FM radio
- Less than impressive camera performance
- Very limited third-party 3D apps
- Unimpressive with the screen's outdoor performance
- Performance not quite as convincing as other dual-cores
All told, the Optimus 3D is a perfectly serviceable, largely inoffensive smartphone that just so happens to possess 3D capabilities. Like the idiot savant math whiz, or the high school phenom with a poisonous crossover, LG's latest creation occasionally shows flashes of brilliance, but still lacks some fundamental qualities -- in this case, sophisticated software and a grittier battery. To LG's credit, the Optimus 3D isn't trying to be something it's not. read more →
- 3D excitement
- Fast performance
- Spacious display
- 3D fatigue
- Bulky
- Runs Froyo
If you're happy to take a punt on glasses-free 3D being here to stay, the 3D features of the LG Optimus 3D are certainly enough to warrant its high price. The 3D video's great, with a genuine sense of depth coming across in the footage.
The worry is, if you take a load of 3D photos and videos now, are they going to be viewable five or 10 years down the line? Or will you be left with a big, undocumented gap in your life, where all your photos and videos were taken in a format that no new devices support? read more →
- Excellent 3D screen and effect
- Big, accurate keyboard
- Some good LG social and web interface additions
- Smooth 2D 1080p video recording
- Poor battery life
- Bland hardware design
- Slow to unlock
- Can also be slow to respond to some touches
- Not running the latest version of Android
When it comes to the battery life , the huge 4.3-inch screen is a key factor squeezing all 1500mAh of juice by the end of the day with moderate use. Actually, when in stand-by mode the battery drain is not that noticeable, but just after lighting up, the screen greedily devours juice. The performance of the phone's battery is among the phone's biggest downsides, so you should either prepare a spare battery or keep a charger nearby if you want to make sure that your phone will last you through the day. read more →
- 3D is fun
- Extremely snappy, fluid navigation
- Great browser
- Battery struggles to last a day
- Bulky
- Disappointing camera performance in 2D
LG's Optimus 3D smartphone had CNET apprehensive, but we were surprised to see that the 3D video effect is pretty cool. read more →
