The LG Optimus 3D Max and the original Optimus 3D are so much alike you may have trouble figuring out the differences. Minor changes can sometimes make a big difference but one particular difference is not so hard to notice and, to us, it may as well be the decider in favor of the 3D Max. The sequel is notably slimmer and lighter than the original, so there's proof that handheld 3D viewing can come in a compact package.
Considering that the other major player, HTC,is not nearly as interested in the technology, the 3D Max may prove its worth regardless of its shortcomings. read more →
- Quad-band GSM and 3G support
- 21 Mbps HSDPA and 5.76 Mbps HSUPA
- 4.3" 16M-color capacitive LCD stereoscopic touchscreen of WVGA resolution (480 x 800 pixels)
- Android OS v2.3 Gingerbread with LG 3D UI
- Dual-core 1.2GHz ARM Cortex-A9 proccessor, PowerVR SGX540 GPU, TI OMAP4430 chipset
- Runs Gingerbread
- Less than impressive camera performance
- Still limited third-party 3D apps market
- Questionable outdoor performance
- Not the best dual-core performance,
LG makes one of the very few phones for 3D shenanigans with the Optimus 3D and now the Optimus 3D MAX. If we leave the 3D aspect aside, the 3D MAX it is a bit heavy mid-range device with run-of-the mill dual-core processor and WVGA screen resolution. On top of that it takes mediocre pictures, regardless if 2D or 3D, and has a substandard battery life when it comes to talk time. However, we do have the 3D aspect, plus the phone has received a spec bump compared to its predecessor, sports a good call quality, and has a thing going for it designwise with the metal buttons and port lids. read more →
- Glasses-free 3D screen and 3D pics/video capture
- 2D to 3D converter for apps, pictures and video
- 3D gaming
- Metal buttons and port lids class it up
- Modest spec bump comes at too high of a price
- Mediocre pics and video quality in both 2D and 3D
- Substandard battery life
On its own, the 3D Max is a solid dual-core phone with some neat NFC-enabled features. But the hiccupping 3D feature, although cool, is a drag.
As a standalone product, the LG Optimus 3D Max is a reliable handset. The camera quality is satisfactory, the swift dual-core CPU makes it a breeze to handle, and the NFC-enabled chip is a welcome new technology on any phone. But if you're looking for an outstanding user experience from the device's 3D feature, it may help to wait for the technology's bumps to get smoothed out. read more →
- The LG Optimus 3D Max has a speedy dual-core processor and a crisp display, and it's equipped with an NFC chip and tag stickers.
- The LG Optimus 3D Max's display has a narrow viewing angle when in 3D mode, and the 3D software is still buggy. Also, until an upgrade comes you're stuck on Android Gingerbread.
