The low-profile LG GW620 turned out a decent gadget indeed. A solid QWERTY messenger with proper computing power, it will meet most users needs without breaking the bank.
As the companys first Android-based smartphone were surprised it didnt get enough publicity. It could be their long declared commitment to Windows Mobile (soon to be Windows Phone) or else, but for whatever reason they chose not to promote their Android device. read more →
- Affordable and easy to use touchscreen phone
- Quad-band GSM and dual-band 3G (with HSDPA) support
- 3" resistive touchscreen of HVGA resolution
- Friendly five-row slide-out QWERTY keyboard
- Android OS v1.5
- Android OS is limited to version 1.5
- Resistive touchscreen with poor sunlight legibility
- No video-call camera
- No Bluetooth file transfers
- No Flash support for the web browser
It feels hard to give a proper verdict on the Intouch Max GW620 - it's like a really, really good phone made out with a bad one and the resultant mobile baby came out with elements of both. The cost of the handset is great - £20 a month is a smashing deal - and the level of connectivity and productivity will entice a lot of people.
But then again, the resistive screen is poor, the phone is chunky and while the keyboard is good, the on-screen option isn't in the same league, and that's a real turn off for some people. read more →
- Great keyboard
- Nice social networking overlay
- Compact package
- Good camera
- Option to use S-Class
- Resistive screen
- Chunky build
- Old version of Android
- Laggy UI at times
We believe the LG GW620 is a decent first attempt at an Android handset. It cannot hold a candle to the HTC Nexus One , Hero or Motorola DROID , since it´s a far cry from them in terms of hardware and software. However, the proper messaging and email functionality, as well as the particular personalization of the interface, make us think the handset is aimed at young people and ordinary customers and not seasoned smartphone users. read more →
- Good QWERTY keyboard
- Good audio playback quality
- DivX and Xvid support (even if at limited resolution)
- Camera interface with extremely rich functionality
- Robust battery
- Runs obsolete OS version
- Resistive screen
- Needs better integration of social networks
- Interface personalization with a lot of room for improvements
The LG GW620 is excellent for messaging, but for everything else, there's probably something better out there. To be completely honest, the GW620 doesn't have anything that makes it stand out from the crowd aside from a truly excellent keyboard. Its listless performance was what irked us the most and the phone seems a generation old in terms of its interface. It'd be hard to recommend this smartphone unless you're looking for a messaging device with a vanilla Android (or marginally customized software). read more →
- Solid, compact design
- excellent QWERTY keyboard.
- Sluggish performance
- lacks standout feature.
Also residing on the right edge is the camera button while the top is home to the combined power and screen-lock button. On the left is a microUSB socket, which is used for charging the phone as well as doing data transfers, and the volume rocker. The button arrangement on the front is slightly odd as the Home and Back buttons are touch sensitive. Not only does this seem a bit pointless but the central selection button isn't touch-sensitive making for an inconsistent feel when interacting with the phone. read more →
