At a time when Smartphone market is reaching specs-saturation and has become a level playing field where originality is largely overrated, LG was bold enough to try something very new and the result is a cool, modular G5. The modular concept makes sense on paper, but in practice, the G5 felt a bit bland compared to other 2016 flagships. Like last few LG flagships, the front of LG G5 has narrow bezels. The back is entirely made of metal and makes room for a dual camera set-up. Interestingly, the bottom part can be clipped and replaced with other modules (a camera grip, a B&O module for audiophiles, and other accessories). The rear-key is gone for that's where LG had to place a fingerprint sensor. The fingerprint sensor also doubles as a power button, which is something we like. LG also introduced a VR headset module which connects to your phone via USB Type C port, which means it will be light and won't look weird when you put it on. The LG G5 has a 5.3 inch IPS LCD display and LG has also added an Always On feature that keeps one third display (one third backlight) lit at all times and can be used to view notifications, time, etc. The feature consumes 0.8 percent battery per hour according to LG. Software is customized Android 6.0 Lollipop. The fabulous 16 MP sensor on LG G4 is also present on G5, but it is now assisted by another wide angle 8MP shooter. An 8MP selfie camera is also present on the front. Other features include 4G LTE, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (dual-band), Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, NFC, IR blaster, and a 2800 mAh battery. The battery doesn't feel like much, but Quick Charge 3.0 support is some consolation. LG G5 will be available in Silver, Titan, Gold and Pink colors starting from April.
