You can't help we guess, but love the sound of it. Wildfire is a strong and beautiful name. The thing is it raises no less expectation than names like Legend or Hero. But we're talking entirely different leagues here. So a simple Desire mini would've told the whole story - and caused no confusion.
They didn't even try to be creative. HTC just went on to repackage an existing product for a different target market. read more →
- Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE support
- 3G with 7.2 Mbps HSDPA
- Android OS v2.1 (clair) with Sense UI
- 3.2" capacitive touchscreen of QVGA resolution
- Multi-touch support
- Poor screen image quality, QVGA doesnt do Android OS and the display size justice
- No video-call camera or videocalling whatsoever
- CIF@15fps video recording (352 x 288 pixels) is below par
- No voice dialing
- No DivX or XviD video support out of the box
Well, we didn't have high expectation for the Wildfire to begin with, and having played with it we were even less stoked. In general, this handset's seriously lacking in multimedia features, and then we have the screen problem plus the occasional lag. That said, we can't really walk away hating the Wildfire in its entirety -- the battery life's good, plus it is after all a £230 ($346) device if bought off the shelf, or for free on T-Mobile's £20 ($30) per month two-year contract. read more →
- Stylish
- Great battery life
- Affordable
- Weak video playback
- Poor camcorder
- Low-res screen
So what do we really make of the HTC Wildfire? It's a likable handset with a lot going for it.
We love the HTC Wildfire's grown-up looks, proving that low-cost handsets don't have to look like they should be sold in ToysRUs. read more →
- A budget phone that doesn't look cheap
- Nippy web browsing complete with Flash content
- Improved camera with flash
- Capacitive touchscreen
- HTC Sense with brilliant social network integration
- Calling and messaging not 100% reliable
- QVGA screen isn't great for watching video
- Media player could be better
- Not Android 2.2
- Location sometimes a bit dodgy
The HTC Wildfire's display seems to be the main sacrifice on the altar of affordability, along with the fairly timid processor. We think there should be a law forbidding phones with great design to be underpowered and paired to low-res screens. Joking aside, if we didn't have these gripes with the camera quality, the HTC Wildfire would be a decent first stop for inexpensive introduction to the world of Android touchscreen phones. read more →
- Interesting design and solid build quality
- Affordable
- Great battery life for an Android smartphone
- Poor camera quality
- Sense UI doesn't look good on such low pixel density
- Scroll lag in the browser
Designed for international markets, the HTC Wildfire is a compact, budget-friendly Android phone packed with features, but you can find similar devices in North America for less on contract and with added 3G support. read more →

- Features a lower-resolution screen. The smartphone can be sluggish at times. Lacks support for North American 3G bands. Camera quality was rather subpar.
