The HTC Legend has the tough task of filling the shoes of what was considered the best Android handsets. What makes this task even harder is the fact that the Hero lost its top-shelf status just before its successor was announced.
In theory the HTC Legend puts enough new stuff on the table to justify its existence. More RAM, faster CPU, AMOLED screen and aluminum unibody all sound like perfectly good reasons for an upgrade. read more →
- Aluminum unibody design
- Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE support
- 3G with HSDPA 7.2 Mbps and HSUPA 2Mbps
- Android OS v2.1 with latest Sense UI
- 3.2" capacitive AMOLED touchscreen of HVGA resolution
- No video-call camera (or videocalling whatsoever)
- No dedicated shutter key or lens cover
- No TV-out port
- No voice dialing
- No DivX or XviD video support out of the box
It's safe to say that HTC's broken yet another mold with the Legend, stunning the world with both its hardware and software design. There's no question about the unibody's toughness, and many other features we've seen here are of significant improvements over the Hero, namely the AMOLED screen (in general), FM radio, optical trackpad (debatable), still camera and the new goodies plus performance boost in Sense UI. read more →
- Strong unibody construction
- Snappy OS performance
- Enhanced Sense UI
- Weak WiFi reception
- Average camera quality
- Screen too reflective outdoors
We had a really, really long think about the mark to give this phone, as it's so good in so many ways that we felt it deserved five stars.
But to give it that would mean recommending it over the iPhone - and while we believe it to be a better phone, it doesn't have the weight of the App Store behind it - and that's going to put a lot of people off. read more →
- Excellent UI
- Nice battery input mechanism
- Speedy browser
- Responsive keyboard
- Stellar design
- Average battery life
- Friendstream and Peep slow to update
We are happy to say the HTC Legend is certainly not a victim of the sequel syndrome. Traditionally, first episodes of acclaimed movie series tend to be the best, with sequels proving to be progressively worse. Fortunately, this is not the case with the HTC Legend and it’s more like “Batman: The Dark Knight” – better than the previous iterations. At the same time, it’s not that different from them either. read more →
- Awesome build quality and spectacular design
- Really snappy (with almost all applications)
- Capable camera
- Excellent in-call quality
- Partial Flash support
- Limited video playback capabilities
- Mediocre audio playback quality
- Discomforting display (in direct sunlight)
With its design improvements and feature enhancements, the HTC Legend is a worthy upgrade from the Hero and one of the most solid and well-built Android phones we've seen in its class. We can only hope that a North American version is released soon. read more →
