HTC One mini 2 review: A worthy new addition to the premium One clan

I'm still stuck on one question when I think about the mini 2: Is it worth the money? It's significantly cheaper than the M8, but I'm not sure price accounts for all the compromises. I primarily love the look and feel of the device, and HTC did an excellent job of recreating much of the M8's appeal. The display marries a good resolution with a quality panel, and although the internal hardware has taken a hit in the shrinking process, it's still remarkably capable and provides enough performance for most apps and features. read more →

  • Gorgeous design
  • Premium, brushed-aluminum chassis
  • Great general performance
  • Cheaper than the M8
  • Not much of a specification upgrade from the One mini
  • Camera performance is disappointing
  • Not particularly cheap

HTC One Mini 2

The HTC One Mini 2 is a solid smartphone and provides a strong option for those seeking a high-end device closer in size to the iPhone 5S than the current fleet of Android flagships. I like the idea of a smaller HTC One M8, one which is more manageable in the hand and easier to slide into a pocket.

With a premium design and decent feature set the One Mini 2 offers an enticing package, but unfortunately it isn't without some flaws. read more →

  • Strong camera
  • Boomsound
  • Chunky build
  • Battery still not great

HTC One mini 2 Review

Let’s be serious folks, the HTC One mini 2 isn’t for everyone. Without question, the smaller and more form-fitting nature of the phone is what’ll attract people to it – that’s of course, if they happen to love the HTC One M8, but not its beefy size. Quite simply, they’ll find the same stylish design and premium construction here. However, it’s accompanied by its fair share of omissions that reduces its functionality over its more highly esteemed sibling – and they exist in both the hardware and software. read more →

  • Same premium design as One M8, but in a more compact package
  • More details captured by its 13-megapixel camera
  • Underwhelming low lighting results with the camera
  • Omitted features (IR blaster, Motion Launch gestures, etc)
  • Blueish screen

HTC One Mini 2 review: A gorgeous compact phone that needs to be cheaper

As with its previous mini flagship, HTC has taken the design of its top model but watered down the internal specs. It's a disappointing move, particularly if you've fallen in love with the slick design and brutal power of the M8 but just can't wrap your hands around its 5.1-inch screen. The Mini 2's metal body is extremely luxurious though and is unquestionably among the most attractive compact phones around, which goes some way to justifying the price.

If style and good looks are of the utmost importance, the Mini 2 may be worth shelling out for. read more →

  • The HTC One Mini 2 is one of the best looking compact phones around, thanks to its gorgeous metal body.
  • Its screen is decent, its KitKat software is pleasant to use.
  • Its camera takes nicer shots than the flagship One M8.
  • Many of its key specs, including processing power and screen resolution match the Motorola Moto G, which costs less than half the price of the Mini 2.

HTC One Mini 2 review

The HTC One Mini 2 isn't a straight switch to a smaller format - there's a slight drop in specs but from what we've seen the changes are impressivly balanced with the Mini 2 feeling every bit as fast as the M8.

Of course the big question will be whether the Mini 2 can still offer everyday performance, a flagship-quality camera experience and a battery life that can compete with its rivals - stay tuned for our full review... read more →

  • Great M8 design
