There are a number of conflicting explanations why there are no Android Market, Google Maps, YouTube , etc. preinstalled on some phones that are otherwise running the Android OS. The most plausible is that while Android is free and open source, Google's applications, including the Android Market are proprietary. So be alert whether that Acer beTouch E100 you are eyeing at the store is a full-featured Android smartphone or not. read more →
- Inexpensive
- Advanced virtual keyboard
- No WiFi
- No Android Market or other Google services
- No horizontal keyboard layout
The Acer beTouch E110 is far from unusable, but a higher-resolution screen and access to the Android app store are sorely lacking. Also unremarkable in terms of appearance, there are much better phones available at a similar price. The Acer beTouch E110 isn't very stylish and its low-resolution screen is disappointing, as is its inability to access the Android Market. As it stands, there's nothing too smart about this budget smartphone. We'd recommend checking out the similarly priced but infinitely better-looking Samsung Monte . read more →
- Intuitive menu navigation
- decent call quality.
- Low-resolution screen
- no access to Android Market
- has resistive rather than capacitive touchscreen.
It’s difficult to know how to score the E110. On the one hand if you look on the handset as a feature phone rather than a smartphone (which is really how Acer is pitching the handset), it’s actually not a bad option as it’s easy to use, has a good range of features for the price and some impressive onboard apps. However, if you were to buy it thinking you’ll be getting a fully fledged Android smartphone we think you’d be pretty disappointed due to the low resolution screen, lack of Android Market and absence of Wi-Fi. read more →
