In recent times, scamsters have found new ways to trick people into sharing their personal information, such as name, email ID, date of birth, or transaction OTPs. A similar case has surfaced on the microblogging platform X (formerly known as Twitter).

Scamster Impersonated FedEx Employee On Call

X user Pratik Rai (@praaatiiik) recently shared a screenshot from his call log highlighting a phone number from which he received a suspicious call. The caller stated that Rai had booked a parcel from the FedEx courier service destined for Thailand from Mumbai. The caller also mentioned that the box contained illegal stuff, such as passports, credit cards, drugs, etc. While the caller knew Rai’s name and phone number, he had an incorrect email address.

Rai writes that the caller asked him to file a complaint with the cyber crime cell about Aadhar fraud and offered to connect him with the cyber crime inspector. When Rai spoke more, the caller asked him to note down some details and repeat them for him, which is when Rai realized something was not right and hung up the call. Strangely, there was no record of the caller’s phone number for calling the X user. While Rai didn’t mention any potential fraud or scam, such calls often get the victim in trouble.

What To Do When Someone Tries To Intimidate You On A Call?

Such incidents alarm users. Everyone should stay vigilant, especially those whose phone numbers are circulated in multiple circles. If someone calls you and blackmails you about committing a crime or asks you to take immediate action, remain confident and ask for some time to revert. Meanwhile, try to find the number’s record on Truecaller.

If someone has used the number to trouble other people, they might have flagged it on the app. Try to verify the caller’s authenticity by asking for valid ID proof. If someone is impersonating a government official or law enforcer, ask them to provide an official address to meet them in person if you feel the conversation has any substance. Moreover, just refrain from sharing personal details over the call, especially bank OTPs, transaction IDs, or anything else.
