Qualcomm is gearing up for one of the biggest launches this year. Set to take place at the Snapdragon Summit, the chip designer will announce the flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC. It is reportedly clocked at 4.3GHz with the option to overclock it further in case of a ‘Plus’ version. It uses TMSC’s 3nm process and is packed with eight custom-made Oryon cores plus a 7th-gen Snapdragon X80 5G RF modem.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC will be the most powerful chipset of all time

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 was announced in October 2023 with a max frequency of 3.4GHz. If that’s not enough for you somehow, get ready to witness the epitome of performance with Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC. Several leaks suggest that it will exceed the 4.0GHz mark once it arrives. The chipset is likely to step onto the figure of 4.3GHz max frequency with its octa-core configuration.

Qualcomm will follow MediaTek’s steps to discontinue efficiency cores. Instead, it will use two prime cores and six high-performance cores. When it comes to the prime cores, we are talking about Qualcomm’s custom-made Oryon cores. It remains to be seen how the high-performance cores and no-efficiency cores onboard Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC work in its favor or against.

Moving further, it’ll bring Adreno 830, certainly the most powerful GPU to handle the heavy lifting. As per Revegnus on X, the standard Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC will use TSMC N3E 3nm process while the AP for Galaxy uses Samsung Foundry’s 3GAP process and might be a bit overclocked than the standard variant.

According to Mishaal Rahman (via X), the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC is likely to use the latest Snapdragon X80 5G RF that brings 6-antenna architecture and 6X carrier aggregation. The model is infused with AI features including the capability to extend the range of fixed-wireless access apps, 30% faster link acquisition, and 20% reduced best-cell selection time among others.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 Launch Timeline

Qualcomm’s CEO Don Mcquire confirmed that a Snapdragon Summit is happening in October this year. It is where the most powerful Qualcomm flagship processor will be announced – the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC. As of now, the chipset is in the design phase with the finalized version ready in April 2024. It will be shipped to OEMs in June followed by mass production in September before officially announcing in October 2024.

Xiaomi is obviously among the first takers with the Xiaomi 15 series although OnePlus and a few other brands will make their way by debuting their flagship phones around the same lines.
